Library Fundraising

Recycle your empty printer cartridges. They help us earn money!

We have enrolled in an Ink Cartridge Recycling program. It is an effortless way to raise money to support our projects and to protect our planet. We earn money simply by recycling used printer, fax and copier cartridges that were destined for the trash.

Most of the inkjet and laser printer cartridges used in our homes, our workplaces and businesses in our community have a high recycling value. We receive cash for every eligible cartridge we collect. Here's how you can help. Save the cartridges you use at home and bring them to the library. Ask others to help. Collect only eligible cartridges and keep up the momentum. When you make recycling a habit, we'll continue raising money with no effort. Pick up our flyer in the library for a list of eligible cartridges.

            Library History

The Whitchurch-Stouffville Public Library dates back to 1877 when it was first established in Allan’s Jewellery Store. The Library then became known as the Mechanic’s Institute and for a time was located in the old Municipal Building at the clock tower. It became a free public library in 1899. The first permanent library was built in 1923 at 7 Main Street East, through a grant from the Carnegie Foundation. The Library moved to a storefront in 1974 and then to 6240 Main Street in 1977. The Library celebrated its 100th birthday on February 17, 1999. The Lebovic Leisure Centre was constructed in 2001 at 30 Burkholder Street, a facility now occupied jointly by the department of Leisure Services and the Library.

You may have noticed some changes in Tumble Talking Books and the following is what Tumblebooks wants you to know what is in store for 2011:

1. More Read-Alongs. We have narrated more early readers and chapter books and have added them to the collection. You'll see that 5 of our categories now display read-alongs exclusively. The collection will continue to grow.

2. More Shakespeare Read-Alongs: We are combining even more multi-cast audio recordings with our ebooks to create additional Shakespeare read-alongs.

3. TumbleReadables becomes a lending library. You'll see that we now have a category which is devoted to downloadable ebooks (although all the titles can still be read online). Your students and patrons will now be able to 'borrow' titles for offline access for 90 day loan periods. There is no limit to the number of books that can be borrowed. Books can be downloaded to laptops, netbooks and desktops and, in a...
